Beggars' Night is what some communities call trick-or-treat when it's held on a night other than Halloween - often the Thursday before October 31. You'll hear the phrase a lot in central Ohio and a few other Midwestern areas.
Why do towns do it?
- School and work: A weeknight schedule can be easier for families than a Saturday packed with parties and travel.
- Regional coordination: Groups of suburbs sometimes pick the same evening so kids aren't bouncing between conflicting nights.
- Tradition: In some places the name and timing stuck decades ago and never moved back to October 31.
Hours still vary by city. One suburb might be 6-8 PM on Thursday while the next town sticks with Saturday Halloween. Always check the town page - never assume the whole metro matches.
2026 tip
Halloween is Saturday, October 31, 2026. Many Beggars' Night towns are landing on Thursday, October 29 this year, but that's not universal. Confirm on trickortreattimes.com for your zip.
